TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

“I teach my students according to their own interests, level and age – from beginners on up.  There are certain basic musical concepts and skills that every vocalist, instrumentalist, songwriter or composer should have.  However, among these basic concepts and skills, I stress different elements according to each particular student’s needs. In this way, each individual student comes to know the basics through exploring their own interests, and at their own rate. Concepts are then reinforced through singing, playing or writing.  Most importantly, this approach retains the fun and joy of learning music.” – Lisa Brigantino

BACKGROUND AND CREDENTIALS:

Lisa was privately trained in piano and violin as a child and teenager and has gone on to be a multi-instrumentalist, playing fifteen plus instruments.

Lisa received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in music theory and Master of Music degree in music theory and composition from SUNY Fredonia, studying composition under Dr. Donald Bohlen, voice with Christine McMasters and upright bass with Dr. Harry Jacobson. Lisa was also a member of The Fredonia Chamber Singers, a 26 select voice international touring vocal ensemble.  As a graduate assistant at SUNY Fredonia, Lisa tutored private music theory lessons and also taught group classes in undergraduate music theory.

Additionally, Lisa completed four years of course work in music therapy at SUNY Fredonia, including three years of off-campus weekly clinicals in Western New York with a variety of populations including profoundly retarded children and teens, geriatric clients, and outpatient psychiatric clients.

Lisa has been a performing and touring musician for over 30 years and was an original member of Lez Zeppelin, the world’s first all-female Led Zeppelin tribute band. She toured internationally with the band playing bass, bass pedals, keyboards and mandolin and doing back-up vocals at A list venues and festivals around the world.  Lisa is often called on to sit in with NYC artists on their shows as a musician, back-up singer and music director.

Lisa is also an award winning songwriter and composer having received numerous finalist positions in Billboard World Contests and many others as well as finalist positions in two rounds of the International Acoustic Music Awards and in The First Annual Songs For Social Change Contest. Most recently, she received 3rd place for her song “Every Day’s A Journey” in the WomenArts Swan Day Song Contest. She composes for film, television, new media and more as well solo vocal, choral and instrumental works.

Lisa’s students have gone on to take college level music classes and lessons.

“Lisa is a phenomenal teacher with a wide range of knowledge and an extensive background as a vocalist. I took lessons with her over the course of three years, and my range and ability improved massively during that time. She is excellent at tailoring lessons to one’s needs and I would recommend her to anyone interested in learning the art or honing their abilities.”

“I have been studying ukulele with Lisa for about 11 months.  I originally met her as a friend and I knew her to be a terrific musician.  We meet weekly on zoom. Lisa makes every one of my lessons fun and highly instructive.  She is very encouraging.  I have been a singer all of my life and decided to learn an instrument at 69.  I choose songs I want to do and the next day I receive a notated lyric sheet in my key with chord charts.  I am having a ball because of Lisa’s brilliant musicality and her wonderful and fun personality.  I highly recommend her as a teacher.”

“Our teen-age daughter really enjoys her voice lessons with Lisa.
Her singing has been a great boost for her self confidence.”
